A Brand New Future

"I enjoyed helping people while working at Deseret Industries and had a lot of fun in the process."

A friend recommended I go to Deseret Industries (DI) to work. I eventually sought a referral to enter the DI program from my bishop. What I didn’t know was that DI not only provides work for today, but also provides help for obtaining future work.

Once I started, DI offered to help me with my schooling. My job coach enrolled me in a home-study program and provided the materials to complete my GED, an alternative to a high school diploma. This has been a long and difficult process.

I also received job training. I learned a lot and had a good experience. I enjoyed working the closing shift, when everyone was willing to pitch in at the end of a long day. It was a fun atmosphere, and we felt comfortable laughing and joking with the customers and with one another. My experience taught me to appreciate the little things, such as getting to know new people, and that I am often mistaken when judging others on first impressions.

Overall, I enjoyed helping people while working at Deseret Industries and had a lot of fun in the process. I have new confidence now and am looking forward to a brand-new future.
