The heart can be defined as the very essence or core of something. For Ben, who came to work as an operational supervisor at Deseret Industries, kindness and compassion are the heart of his work.

“I love people,” Ben says. “I love talking to people. I talk to everyone in the store.”

As a leader at Deseret Industries, Ben is defined by his kind heart and desire to inspire those around him. In his role, he supervises and coaches a group of associates who are in the DI job training program.

Associates at Deseret Industries gain work experience and receive job skills training to become more valuable employees and prepare for better future career opportunities.

A Heart of Inspiration

Working at DI is the perfect fit for Ben because it allows him to use his strong leadership skills as he coaches associates and inspires them to reach their potential.

“When I came into this job, I realized that the employees here are already great workers,” Ben says. “They just need a reminder.”

Ben plays an important role in creating a safe learning environment that allows associates to thrive. He likes coaching and guiding them to enhance their abilities and maximize the positive impact of their strengths.

“I am grateful that this job puts me in a position where I can help associates realize and remember how good they are,” Ben says.

With Ben’s approach of strengthening associates, he inspires and motivates employees to try their best, solve problems, and put themselves out there as they seek to learn important workplace skills and behaviors.

A Heart of Positivity

Ben finds his job incredibly uplifting, rewarding, and satisfying. He feels that the positive work culture is part of what makes DI special. This supportive work environment provides associates with the positive mindset they need to tackle challenges both at work and in their personal lives.

“This job is personal and direct in influencing and supporting the associates,” Ben says.

By emphasizing the importance of developing positive perspective, associates strengthen their belief in themselves and build greater confidence. They are then more prepared to take on new learning opportunities, which strengthens their skills and better prepares them for future employment.

A Heart of Appreciation

Ben is grateful for his position because it allows him to contribute in ways that are important to him. For example, Ben has made valuable connections with DI staff and associates, allowing him to share his optimism with those he works with.

Ben and other DI employees will also tell you that working with people is what makes DI a great place to work. Ben feels that this is more than a job—it is an opportunity to lead and support others in reaching their potential.

“I love and enjoy being at this job,” Ben says. “I was so happy when I was hired, and coming here has been an amazing experience for me.”
