Cassidy began working for Deseret Industries when she was at a crossroads in her life—unsure what her next step should be. She quickly realized that the job would not only provide income but also prepare her for a brighter employment future.

Cassidy is enrolled in the DI job training program, which helps associates develop essential job skills like teamwork and professionalism. This program gives associates a safe space to learn and grow in their careers.

Cassidy’s Leadership and Learning Experience

After some time at DI, Cassidy became a team lead. The assignment has allowed her to strengthen her resume and grow her leadership skills.

“This has been a great learning experience,” Cassidy says. “One of the biggest things I have learned here is patience. I have learned to teach people at their own pace and to teach them according to their own needs.”

Cassidy’s personalized approach to leadership has helped her team members flourish. She enjoys seeing their growth and feels more confident in her ability to lead.

“To be a leader, you need to get to know the people you lead,” Cassidy says. “That helps you know how to help them learn and do the job correctly. I like seeing how far people have come and how much they have learned from my training.”

Cassidy’s Support System

One essential piece to Cassidy’s story is the support she has received from DI staff. Her operational supervisor has been crucial to her success, building her confidence to ask for help when needed.

“I appreciate how my job coach has been a good support for me,” Cassidy says. “He offers me practical career advice and helps me improve my job search skills. He has taught me how to make myself a more attractive job candidate for future employment.”

In turn, Cassidy has utilized her strengths to help her job coach, such as becoming proactive in improving work processes.

“I look for ways that I can make things flow better on our team,” Cassidy says. “I try to solve problems so that my job coach doesn’t have to worry about it.”

Cassidy’s Preparation for the Future

Thanks to the training and support provided by DI, Cassidy feels more prepared for the future. She is also utilizing resources such as her development counselor, who assists with goals and career planning.

“My development counselor has helped me sign up for classes to learn how to get a new job or look for a new job,” Cassidy says.

In addition, Cassidy has met with experts at Employment Services, who have provided employment support. “Employment Services has helped me make a new resume that is more concise and professional,” Cassidy says. “I have also built the confidence to do job interviews. I have gotten good training on how to find a new job and feel much more prepared for my job search.”
