It was a frigid winter day when Jay, a manager at Deseret Industries, saw a woman and her small children walk into his store without any warm clothing. He was relieved to learn that they were there to get some coats and shoes to replace their shorts and flip-flops.  

This seemingly ordinary experience was actually quite profound for Jay. That’s because he got to witness firsthand individuals in need who were helped through finding affordable goods at DI.

Back to That Winter Day 

Jay knows how impactful it can be when people are able to find what they need at an affordable price. 

“I [worked in] banking before I came to Deseret Industries,” he says. “I wasn’t too worried about people who had a need—I was more worried about myself. I had just gone through a very hard time and was still going through a hard time.” 

But as Jay saw the good work being done at Deseret Industries, he found a new perspective. 

“Helping people changed my heart and my perception of people.” 

Warming Hearts During Christmas Time  

Troy, a store manager at another Deseret Industries location, has felt his heart fill with gratitude as he has helped people in need. 

“I am in the right line of work,” Troy says. “I get the privilege of seeing the love of Jesus Christ in action.” 

Troy’s heart has been truly touched as he has watched people be able to afford household goods and clothing during hard times. These experiences hold a special place in Troy’s heart because he has seen those who have received also help others.  

What Can I Do?
