Jeff was looking for a fresh perspective on his career, but he needed some guidance. That’s when he found work at Deseret Industries.
Just like how a construction worker refers to blueprints, Jeff has used his experience in the DI job training program to start building a secure employment future.
“I was at a point where I felt like I needed to get a new job that would revitalize my career,” Jeff says. “I had had positive experiences with DI, so I decided to come here.”
As Jeff has worked at DI, he has become more aware of his natural talents and abilities.
“Jeff is always willing to do whatever needs to get done,” says Ben, who is Jeff’s operational supervisor. “He is reliable and task-oriented. I like that I get to help him see his path forward. When I was able help him to break down his goals into smaller pieces, he was able to see how he could reach his goals.”
In his role as a supervisor, Ben coaches Jeff on ways to improve his work and reach his employment goals. Ben identifies talents that Jeff has and strategically places him in work environments where he can build skills and thrive.
“Upper management has complimented me on the quality of my work and my ability to get tasks done,” Jeff says.
Jeff appreciates the assurance of healthy communication and feels supported in his work. The culture of good communication creates a work environment where associates like Jeff and his coworkers can learn and grow effectively.
“Associates feel supported, and problems can be resolved quickly,” Jeff says. “My operational supervisor and development counselor review my goals with me, and they connect me with important resources.”

Jeff is one of the thousands of associates in the job training program and has seen firsthand how it prepares individuals for future employment. Through the program, Jeff and other associates learn essential job skills to become more valuable and capable employees.
“DI takes people from all different backgrounds and helps support these associates in reaching their career goals,” Jeff says.
In addition to support from DI staff, Jeff has access to several other DI-related resources designed to help him succeed. One of these tools is Employment Services—a free resource available to the public that helps individuals with their job search. Employment Services offers expert coaching for job search skills like networking, resume writing, finding job leads, staying emotionally resilient, and so much more.
“Employment Services is helping me improve my resume,” Jeff says. “It is helping me learn how to present myself in a job search to show that I am a valuable employee.”
Deseret Industries and Employment Services work closely together to make sure DI associates have support as they search for their next job.
“I feel more confident looking for my next job because I have learned important skills that make finding a job easier and more successful,” Jeff says.

To build something great, it is essential to have a safe place to work. Jeff can attest to the fact that kindness makes all the difference.
“Working at DI has been a positive work experience,” Jeff says. “This is a supportive work environment. DI is good at supporting associates who are overcoming barriers to employment.”
He values the connections he has made during his time at DI. Rather than dreading coming to work, Jeff looks forward to his shifts.
“I appreciate the comradery and friendship that I have with my coworkers,” Jeff says. “I like that we can talk and connect, and we get along great.”
Because he is choosing to make the most of his experience at DI, Jeff is more prepared for the future. He has learned important skills and made valuable connections, which has strengthened his confidence in his ability to succeed in future employment opportunities.
“Because I have this good relationship with my coworkers, I feel more confident and better about working with customers,” Jeff says.
