Kerlin has been working at Deseret Industries for a year and has made a big impact during that time. Since joining the team, she’s taken on multiple responsibilities, including team lead, cashier, and working in both the men’s clothing and shoe departments. 

“This is my favorite job,” Kerlin says. “It’s a store with many opportunities. I like to do everything, but I specifically enjoy working with clothes.” 

Kerlin’s enthusiasm shows in everything she does. After completing a cashier certification with the help of Deseret Industries, Kerlin quickly became known for her friendly service and willingness to support wherever needed. But for her, the DI job training program is about more than just tasks—it’s about growth. 

“I have learned many things,” Kerlin says. “I have learned to make a career, to work with clothing, and especially to serve people with kindness. I love talking to people and helping them.”

Originally from South America, Kerlin is actively taking steps to improve her English so she can make an even bigger impact in her role. 

“I’ve spoken with my supervisor about taking an intensive English course so I can speak more fluently.” 

Kerlin also uses her bilingual skills to help fellow Spanish-speakers on her team. 

“Other Latinos also come to work at Deseret Industries, and I help them solve their problems,” she says. 

As a team lead, Kerlin is learning to balance leadership with personal development and is grateful for the chance to refine her skills. She isn’t sure what job she’ll pursue next, but she’s confident that Deseret Industries is helping her build a strong foundation.
