Harrisville Deseret Industries Reopens with a Fresh Look and Expanded Offerings
After months of thoughtful planning and renovation, the Harrisville Deseret Industries location officially reopened on February 6, 2026, and the community was welcomed back through its doors. Shoppers waiting for the reopening event to begin lined up around the building. Some even stayed in their cars overnight to be among the first to see the updated store and its refreshed selection of donated items.
An estimated 200-300 shoppers attended the reopening and found a wide selection of high‑quality donated items waiting inside.
“Everybody’s excited, and everybody’s finding items. It’s awesome!” stated a DI volunteer who helped with the store’s reopening event.
A New and Improved Shopping Experience
Returning visitors to the Harrisville DI will notice improvements from the moment they walk inside. The remodel focused on making the store brighter, easier to navigate, and more enjoyable for both shoppers and associates. Key improvements include:

A refreshed retail floor with updated layouts for easier browsing.

Bright, modern LED lighting that improves visibility across the store.

A new indoor yard area (previously located in an outdoor fenced space), allowing for a more pleasant shopping experience in that section of the store.

Better‑utilized retail space, allowing for improved displays of clothing, furniture, and seasonal items.

Updated interiors including fresh paint, new vinyl flooring, and new dressing rooms.
“We’re so very proud of the final product of the updated Harrisville DI store, and all of the efforts that went into this remodel by the staff, associates, and volunteers that participated,” says Steve Baldwin, DI region manager of Northern Utah and Eastern Idaho.
Customers will continue to find a wide selection of gently used clothing, housewares, books, toys, electronics, and unique treasures at the store, all refreshed daily thanks to community donations.
A Community Effort
The reopening celebration drew local shoppers, neighbors, and longtime DI supporters, eager to see the changes. Like all Deseret Industries locations, the Harrisville store thrives thanks to the generosity of its community. Through volunteering, shopping, and donating, Harrisville DI customers support DI's mission to provide better training, opportunities, and support for DI associates.
Supporting Job Training and Opportunity
While the remodel brings exciting updates for shoppers, it also strengthens the mission at the heart of Deseret Industries: offering job training and development opportunities for individuals working to overcome obstacles to employment.
“This renovated space gives our trainees a great environment where they can learn, grow, and feel proud of the work they’re doing,” Baldwin shares. “It helps them to better maintain store standards and process donated items to help them achieve their goals more consistently.”
Associates at the Harrisville store work under the direction of experienced supervisors, who help them build skills in customer service, inventory management, retail operations, and more. Many go on to other long-term employment opportunities in the community.
“The best thing about working at DI is directly affecting individuals,” states Scott Meacham, store manager of the Harrisville DI. “We want our community to know that Deseret Industries is not in the donation business or the retail business—we are in the people-building business. What’s most important about what we do here is changing lives for the better and helping associates accomplish goals that they often didn’t think were possible.”
