How Greg is Finding His Career Path at Deseret Industries

Every journey starts with a single step. Greg, an associate at Deseret Industries, is taking those first steps toward finding better employment. Through his experience at DI, Greg has gained access to essential resources needed to pursue his goals, build a brighter future, and begin a new career path. 

“I am looking for work that meets my needs and is built on my talents,” Greg says. 

Gaining Valuable Experience 

Through its job training program, Deseret Industries provides associates with valuable opportunities to develop essential skills and gain the experience needed to build a strong foundation for their careers. 

“Working at DI has given me confidence,” Greg remarks. “If you feel like you don’t have confidence, they offer classes and avenues that will give it to you.” 

Moreover, DI fosters a positive and supportive environment. By creating a learning space where associates feel safe and encouraged, DI enables them to grow professionally while enjoying their jobs. 

“I love working here,” Greg shares. “My favorite part is my awesome team.”  

Preparing for Future Employment 

Another reason why associates like working at Deseret Industries is because DI staff give each associate individualized attention. This personalized support helps associates overcome barriers to employment so they can advance in their career.  

“The staff are great teachers helping me to grow,” Greg says. “My boss takes the time to recognize the work I do and the talents that I have.” 

Through this personalized experience, DI equips associates with practical skills and tailored training to meet each associate’s specific needs. For example, associates have opportunities to receive valuable onsite and offsite certifications.

“I have gotten certified in forklift,” Greg says. “I have also learned about the processes, like pricing and merchandising, that make a retail store function.” 

With the experience he has gained at DI, Greg will have access to more employment opportunities. Certifications are just one of the many resources that DI offers associates to create a clearer and stronger path to future employment. 

“My supervisor introduced me to the employment center, and they helped me fix my resume,” Greg says. “I am also in a job search skills class that is helping me learn things that will help me reach my goal of finding a full-time job.” 

Employment Services is open to anyone who is seeking better employment opportunities. Desert Industries works closely with Employment Services to make sure all DI associates have access to practical job search help and support as they pursue their next job. 

“I feel that my confidence has increased significantly in finding a new job,” Greg says. “Working here has given me motivation and skills to find work.” 

Visualizing the Future 

The next step on Greg’s path toward reaching his long-term goal of becoming an X-ray tech is to utilize the skills he has gained at DI to find better employment. 

“I want to use my next job as a forklift operator as a steppingstone for steady income so I can go to school while working,” Greg shares.
