What Does Deseret Industries Mean for Your Community?

For Benjamin, a DI associate, DI means job training and new horizons. After a back injury, Benjamin could no longer work in freight delivery, and he found himself struggling to find employment. At Deseret Industries, Benjamin is able to receive the support and training he needs to get started in a new career: phlebotomy.

For Maggie, a DI shopper, DI means finding great deals. She’s able to save money on things from home décor and household items to clothes for her kids. As a DIY pro, Maggie also gets inspiration at DI. She loves finding furniture and other items to upcycle—almost as much as she loves knowing that her purchases help people like Benjamin get the job training they need.

For Seth, a DI donor, DI means his family can stay organized and do some good at the same time. To support others, Seth and his family donate items they no longer use. Donating their unneeded belongings helps their neighbors build new lives and careers, and that brings a smile to Seth’s face every time he pulls into the donation dock.

Having a Deseret Industries in your community means new opportunities for everyone. If there’s a new DI location opening in your neighborhood, it’s time to celebrate. How can you be a part of the good Deseret Industries does? Here are some ideas:

  • Shop or donate. When you do, you’re helping fund job training for people in your community. Unsold items are either used in humanitarian relief or are recycled. We do our best to make sure every donation makes a difference in the best way possible.
  • Volunteer. Spend time helping out in the stores by sorting items, accepting donations, bagging items, and participating in other volunteer projects.
  • Spread the word. Let others in your community know about the good that Deseret Industries does, and tell them about how they can help.
  • Join us as an associate. If you think you could benefit from the Deseret Industries program, contact the LDS bishop in your area; you do not have to be a member of the Church to become an associate. Find the bishop in your area by searching your address at maps.lds.org.

Every time we build another Deseret Industries, we’re so excited to join with the community in helping others and making a difference. Come join us!
