Meet Samson, a passionate soccer enthusiast from Central Africa who has found purpose at Deseret Industries. He has been working as a DI associate for about six months and enjoys learning on the job.

In his role at the donation drive-through, Samson not only assists donors but also ensures items are efficiently moved to processing areas. The position has given him the chance to build invaluable skills in customer service, organization, and teamwork.

“I like working on the dock,” Samson says as he describes how he has grown in the job.

Through the DI job training program, associates like Samson also learn essential workplace behaviors such as productivity, professionalism, and dependability. With marketable skills and job behaviors gained in the program, individuals are better prepared for future employment opportunities that will help them create better lives for themselves.

“I have pride in my job,” Samson says, illustrating what makes him a great employee and job candidate.

To help him accomplish his goals, Samson has placed a particular focus on learning English. With the help of Deseret Industries, he is participating in English courses, which he has attended three times a week for the last six months. Samson has seen how improving his English has allowed him to be more confident and help those donating at Deseret Industries

For Samson, the support he has received through Deseret Industries has been significant. He credits his job coach for teaching and mentoring him as he overcomes barriers to employment.

“He helps me with everything,” Samson says.
