A lot can happen in a year. For Dolores, working at Deseret Industries for the past 12 months has been a continuous journey of discovering hope and joy.

Before securing the job, Dolores had been facing some significant challenges in life. She was having difficulty supporting family members who were going through a hard time.  She applied to Deseret Industries because she believed it would provide the positive working environment she needed. When Dolores got the job, she was thrilled.

“I was excited and ready to start working,” Dolores says. “I knew it was a good place to work.”

With her positive attitude, Dolores has embraced her experience at DI, gaining the support and confidence she needs to create a better life for herself. Her operational supervisor has been instrumental in this process, helping her learn essential job skills and encouraging her growth through a variety of work experiences.

“My job coach was excited to support me in learning new skills like cashiering and sorting,” Dolores says.

Dolores initially felt a bit nervous about learning so many new things. However, she soon noticed that mastering a variety of skills boosted her confidence in completing her tasks. This process also helped her build a sense of trust in her own ability to learn and adapt. She discovered that being brave and humble while acquiring new abilities can be both rewarding and fulfilling.

“There were times in my training that were hard for me,” Dolores recalls. “But learning new skills helped me build my confidence. For example, learning to be a cashier was hard. But now I love cashiering.”

Like other DI associates, Dolores has continued to learn important job skills through the Deseret Industries job training program. This program teaches essential workplace behaviors such as communication and teamwork and encourages associates to support one another in their learning. For example, Dolores grew to love being a cashier thanks to the help of a friendly DI associate.

“I am grateful that my coworker was able to provide me with additional support,” Dolores says. “My coworkers are fantastic; they are such a blessing in my life. They make it a tremendous blessing to work at DI.”

Dolores's job at DI has helped her flourish in life, thanks to the training and support from her operational supervisor and coworkers.

“The training here has shown me that I have the skills within me to be a good employee,” Dolores says. “I have also seen that I am good at learning things.”

With her newfound confidence and hope, Dolores now approaches life’s challenges with a sense of trust and accomplishment in herself.
