What’s the Yard Area?

The yard area at Deseret Industries has many unique and sought-after items, and it’s home to some of the best finds. It’s usually in the back of the store and may be separated from the main sales floor by a set of doors. Ask an associate to direct you if you need help.

Here are 20 items commonly found in the yard area:

1. Bikes.

Find inexpensive mountain bikes, cruisers, and tricycles. Other popular wheeled items include rollerblades, skates, scooters, and skateboards.

3. Sports equipment.

DI has almost as many baseball bats, golf clubs, and basketballs as a sporting goods store. If you’re wanting to try a new sport, get the equipment you need secondhand. That way, you can start learning and decide if the sport is right for you without spending a lot of money.

4. Exercise equipment.

If you’re into bicep curls, dead lifts, and squats, search your local DI for weights. As you get stronger, donate the weights you no longer need and pick up a heavier set. You can also often find resistance bands, yoga mats, and jump ropes to supplement your routine.

5. Household fixtures.

Redoing your home? Check the yard area for sinks, light fixtures, mirrors, doorknobs, fans, and hardware.

6. Filing cabinets.

DI almost always has multiple sets of filing cabinets in the yard area. If you’re a business owner or a teacher, think about getting a filing cabinet for all of your important paperwork.

7. Furniture.

If you’re looking for the perfect set of kitchen chairs, don’t forget to check the yard area. DI keeps most of its used furniture on the main sales floor, but the yard area usually has some additional options.

Doing some yard renovations this summer? You can find shovels, rakes, hammers, and shears all in the yard area.

9. Car accessories.

Not many people think to look for these items at DI, but the yard area often has trunk-mounted bike racks, steering wheel and seat covers, and other car equipment.

11. Large frames.

Regular-size frames are stored on the main sales floor, but large or oversize frames, artwork, and canvases are kept in the yard area. If you’re looking for a statement piece for your living room wall, the yard area might be just the place to look.
