Today Things Are Different

“I am more employable and have the skills I need to provide a better life for my family”

I came to Deseret Industries when I was trying to build a new life for myself and my three children.  Following my divorce, I was devastated and could not stay focused at work or at home.  I had quit my job to focus on my children until we could find a place to settle and start our lives again.  I needed someplace to begin rebuilding my self-confidence and my trust in others. I needed a safe place to go that would help me move past the negative thoughts. I needed Deseret Industries.

My job coaches, the staff, church service missionaries, and other associates were all instrumental in helping me improve my situation. I had help setting goals, building a resume, and acquiring a certificate in medical coding and billing. With their help, I was moved through a process where I learned to recognize the skills I had and then how to build upon them. My job coaches pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me realize I could lead others. As a lead, I improved my leadership skills and the ability to follow the Spirit as I helped those I worked with become better employees.

Today things are different. Because of the program at Deseret Industries, I am more employable and have the skills I need to provide a better life for my family. I have more self-confidence with following and acting on the Spirit's promptings. The main thing, though, is that DI has given the real me back to my family.

I am so grateful for the bishop who referred me to this program—he was truly inspired.  I have become more successful because of it. I would definitely recommend the DI to others as an avenue to reconnect with the workforce and gain new skills.   My life is better.
