Finding Direction

“Along with the job training from working at DI, I was also diligently engaged in the career and technical training offered.”

I grew up in a rough neighborhood with a gang environment. I graduated from high school, but I struggled to find my direction in life. I found that direction when I was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I embraced the change that came to every aspect of my life. Part of this change came as a result of my referral and acceptance into the Deseret Industries training program.

Along with the job training from working at DI, I was also diligently engaged in the career and technical training offered. I was enrolled in a pharmacy tech program, studied hard, and graduated with A’s. I was then offered a business partnership at a large pharmacy. I added to this training and experience by taking a course in phlebotomy.

Toward the end of my training, I joined the Accelerated Placement Program (APP) offered to DI associates. APP is a program where associates are guided through the job search experience. I found two good jobs, but I am still keeping my eye open for possible pharmacy tech positions in the future.

My appreciation for Deseret Industries and the change it brought to my life led me to encourage four of my friends to enroll at DI, including the bishop who first referred me. I am very grateful to DI for all they have done for me.
