Proud to Be Me

“I had a great desire to achieve the changes I wanted for myself and my future.”

When my family came to the United States to start a new life, we left everything behind and had to start all over again. I really wanted to help my family financially, and I had a great desire to achieve the changes I wanted for myself and my future. Deseret industries (DI) was the place that welcomed my financial and educational situation and provided me with the tools I needed to help me grow in my new life in the United States.

The warm welcome I received at DI helped to motivate me. The staff was there to guide me towards new opportunities. I really felt their support. The lessons I learned from my job coach and the dedication and loyalty of the other associates at DI helped me feel successful and to develop my confidence. My job coach and supervisors played a very important role through their example of the kind of person I would like to be. All the encouragement and kind advice has affected my life in a very positive way. Because of their influence, I am now more hopeful and optimistic.

I overcame some personal challenges while at DI. It was difficult for me to communicate well with others and to be part of a team. It’s not always easy to have a solution that every member in your team agrees with or is happy with, and that can be challenging. I am now more confident to face problems and have become stronger and more passionate about finding solutions. I have learned to set goals, and most importantly, learned how to work toward achieving those goals.

The staff at DI has really helped me knock the negativity out of my life. This has made such a big difference. I am now more focused and devoted to my career than ever before. I have had the opportunity to share this optimism with my fellow associates and even my brother.

Because of my DI experience, I have been able to help my family financially, and that is a big achievement for me and has made my life better. Today, I have my driver’s license and have completed my training to be a medical assistant. I have a wonderful job with a future. Now I can see my potential. I am definitely happy and proud of what I have achieved. I am proud of the person I have become. I am proud to be me.
