I Am So Grateful!

“I soon discovered that DI was created to help individuals change their lives.”

When I arrived at Deseret Industries, I couldn't imagine everything I would eventually learn from being there. I knew that it was one of the businesses owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but I didn’t know or understand its purpose. I soon discovered that DI was created to help individuals change their lives. This place is a very special “school” for all of us who work there, a place to go where we can get the instruction and experience we need to develop the different skills necessary for getting a good job.

I am so grateful for the supervisors and the manager at DI, who encouraged me and helped me to reach my goals to study English and complete a course in phlebotomy. I want to give special thanks to my job coach, who was always there for me and was flexible with my work schedule so that I could dedicate time for study.

Once I successfully completed my phlebotomy course, I needed to get to the next step—finding a job. Through DI, I was offered an opportunity to work with a development specialist in a marvelous six week advanced placement program. Those six weeks with him really helped to open my eyes to the skills and qualities that made me special, and how to look for the job that was meant for me.  He taught me to trust in myself and how to have a successful interview.

I am so grateful for everyone at Deseret Industries, but especially thankful to my Heavenly Father. I am grateful that this kind of institution exists for us, His children, to help us reach our goals for becoming more self-reliant. I was hired by a diagnostics laboratory and I am so happy. I now do things I love to do while helping others.
