I was beginning a painful divorce when I started working in the women’s clothing department at Deseret Industries (DI). I had been out of the workforce for a long time, so I thought that joining the DI training program would help me―and did it ever! I liked my job coach the instant I met her. It didn’t take long for me to settle in and learn what I needed to know to be successful, both in my area and in the training program.
I have done better than I ever could have imagined. I learned several valuable skills, including operating the cash register. Several months into the program I was asked to become a lead over associates in my section. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I could succeed at cashiering and lead a team of associates, yet I did both. I have learned and grown a lot from my experience at DI. I have learned skills which will help me find permanent employment when the time comes.
I have really enjoyed my associations with our store manager, assistant manager, and the entire staff at our store. I have made several friends. I love how the entire staff is so helpful.
Working at DI has truly made a difference in my life. I have succeeded beyond my wildest dream. My self-confidence is restored.
