Providing the Way

“It was Deseret Industries that provided the way for me to finish my education.”

Through divorce I lost my home and nearly everything I had, except for my four beautiful children. I needed to work to provide for my family, yet I needed a job that would allow me the time to be a mother. After completing a CNA course, I had to work both night and day shifts at the nursing home. I knew the key out of this difficult situation was to finish my education, so I immediately enrolled in college courses to become a registered nurse. Trying to raise my children, working long hours, and attending college proved to be a tremendous strain on my family. It was during this very strenuous time, that my mother suggested I ask for a referral from my bishop to Deseret Industries.

It was Deseret Industries that provided the way for me to finish my education. DI provided the resources I needed to continue in school and gave me opportunities to develop my leadership skills. I found that I had time for my children, because the training was customized to my individual needs.

I worked for a year at Deseret Industries while I finished prerequisites to nursing school. Then, I was accepted full-time into the university nursing program. I was also blessed to be married again. Together, we now have a family of nine children.

I will always be grateful to Deseret Industries for providing the way to fulfill my need to be self-reliant and a mother to my children. I can now bless my family with the security that comes from having a nursing degree. I can also use my skills to bless the lives of others.
