Taking the Bull by the Horns

“When my doctor told me I needed to make a career change, I knew it would be a challenge.”

When my doctor told me I needed to make a career change, I knew it would be a challenge. All of my prior work experience and training had been in agriculture and trucking. I didn’t have any experience that would qualify me for an office job. What I did have, however, was a positive attitude, an open mind, a willingness to learn, and a referral to Deseret Industries.

Deseret Industries trained me in several areas that would be relevant to a variety of entry level jobs in the type of work I was seeking. My job coach was both supportive and critical when I needed a little push. She not only taught and trained me to be successful on a new level, but she was also very understanding of my situation. I had a family to provide for and needed to do so as soon as possible. She offered the support and encouragement I needed to propel me to the next level.

I found a position where I was trained as an on-call medical receptionist at a large medical center. I proved that I was able to learn quickly and had good people skills. My hard work was soon noticed, and I was offered a full time position as a pharmacy technician. I passed my background check and obtained a pharmacy technician-in-training license.

From the bottom of my heart, I express my gratitude to Deseret Industries for the privilege to take the bull by the horns and taste success.
