A More Secure Future

“It was this new skill and certification that helped me find my new job”

When I was laid off from my job, I knew I needed to find new employment that offered a better and more secure future for me and my family. A referral to the LDS Humanitarian Center gave me an opportunity to improve my English and develop new job skills.

At the LDS Humanitarian Center, I was enrolled in on-site English classes. Not only did I learn how to speak English better, but I also learned how to read in English. I can now read the scriptures in both English and Tongan with my children.

I learned many job skills and how to search for new jobs while working at the LDS Humanitarian Center. The best training I received, however, was my training in forklifts. I am now certified to drive forks or clamps lifting 100 to 1,000-pound bales. It was this new skill and certification that helped me find my new job driving forklifts at a warehouse.

I now have that better and more secure future I needed. I have a good schedule that allows me time to spend with my family—the best outcome of all. I am very grateful I had this wonderful opportunity.

I now have that better and more secure future I needed.”
