I Got the Job!

“I knew that this job was meant for me.”

My husband found it difficult to maintain a full-time job after he became chronically ill. I needed to go to work to help support our family. However, having been a homemaker for the majority of my married life, I lacked the experience and references necessary to obtain the kind of job I wanted. I hoped the training program offered through Deseret Industries (DI) would improve my long-term chances of obtaining a career, not just a job.

I joined the DI team and worked hard to apply myself at work and develop skills for a new career. Eventually, I was promoted to become a lead. This let me know that the DI staff had confidence in my abilities and work ethic.

After working at DI for several months, I had a change in my original development plans and I was unsure of what I wanted in a career. One afternoon a job coach shared with me a job listing. It was for an administrative position at my very own DI store. As soon as I saw the listing, I knew that this job was meant for me. The Lord, however, does things in His own time and in His own way, because I didn’t get the job at that time.

A couple of days later, upset and confused, I sat in my car, pondering and inquiring of the Lord. I got a very clear impression that I could still get the position if I continued to improve my skills and had enough faith to wait and trust in the Lord. About six months later the position opened up again. With the encouragement of the DI staff, I reapplied. This time I got the job, and I love it!
